Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has singled out Olivier Skipp, Yves Bissouma and Matt Doherty as the three players who have impressed him the most in training during the World Cup.

Antonio Conte reserves praise for Tottenham trio

The Italian coach was complimentary of the Spurs trident via the official club website, saying, “I think that we exploit very well this period, especially for players like Skippy, Bissouma and for Matt Doherty.”

Well, Doherty for starters certainly made a name for himself during the off-season for the players who didn’t go to the World Cup.

In Tottenham’s 4-0 thrashing of Motherwell in a behind-closed-doors friendly, the Irish right-back uncharacteristically scored a brace.

The positive development around Yves Bissouma is a welcome update as well.

While there is no denying that the ex-Brighton midfielder is a top player, he has struggled since joining the north London outfit.

Considering Conte himself admitted (via The Athletic) that the Malian international was finding it a challenge to adapt to his tactical demands in September, it seems as if Bissouma has settled into life at Tottenham.

Similarly, Lilywhites supporters would be delighted to hear that youth product Skipp seems to be turning a new page.

The trio need to step up during the second half of the season

Since leaving Wolves to sign for Spurs, Matt Doherty has struggled to impose himself, both in a back four as well as a back three.

Much in the same vein, the fact that Yves Bissouma has started a mere six Premier League games tells one all they need to know about his time at Tottenham so far.

While Olivier Skipp suffered an untimely foot injury at the start of the season and has been rotated, he has not made any positive headlines up until now.

With the trio impressing Antonio Conte, each of them have a chance to stake a claim for a place in the Tottenham starting XI as club football is set to start again.
