Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing West Ham United and two potential signings the Hammers could make.
Towards the end of the January transfer window, the London club were linked with moves for both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, but sadly for the Hammers, those moves didn’t come to fruition.
Ferdinand, having seen those links, has discussed potential summer moves for the pair, and he believes that West Ham may struggle to convince them to join if they don’t manage to keep hold of Declan Rice.
What’s Ferdinand said?
The pundit gave his view on West Ham’s summer window.
“I think their biggest thing in the next window is keeping Declan Rice. If they keep Declan Rice then I think they’ll have the opportunity to bring others into the club, but if he goes it’s going to be difficult to convince the likes of Raphinha or Kalvin Phillips to come to the club,” Ferdinand said.
Double-edged sword
This is such a double-edged sword for West Ham.
On one hand, keeping hold of Rice will make the Hammers a better team and allow them to attract players as they can market themselves as a club that are likely to be challenging for the European places.
However, on the other hand, if Rice is sold, the money raised from any sale would allow United to spend big on players such as Raphinha, Phillips and perhaps a couple of other big names as well.
