Don Hutchison has stated that for the ‘first time’ he thinks Tottenham would be able to cope and compete even if they were to lose Harry Kane through injury, as he told Premier League Productions.

Whilst Tottenham’s main man is a deadly performer in front of goal, he has been unreliable in terms of the injuries he has suffered in recent seasons.

But whilst Mauricio Pochettino had to deal with a lack of depth in the final third when he was in charge, Jose Mourinho has Kane, Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura and new boys Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius to choose from to play up top now.

And given that depth in quality, ex-Liverpool midfielder & BBC pundit Hutchison thinks those in North London can now still mount a title challenge even if they lose their star man.

“I think no now,” said Hutchison. “I think for the first time I am saying no because Son can play there, Vinicius has been brought in and looks very, very good. Bale can play there. Moura can play up top.

“The number of unbelievable players they have got in their squad. Listen, none of them are going to be as prolific as Harry Kane because he is one of the best out there and he will always hit 25-30.

“But even with Harry Kane this season if he stays full fit, his numbers might be slightly down in terms of goals, but I bet his assists column is higher, which makes him a better all-rounded player to me.”

Whilst Spurs have lacked depth in that area in recent seasons when Kane has suffered his spell on the sidelines, Son has stepped up and delivered the goods in a quite under-appreciated fashion.

Both players are perhaps the form players of this current campaign and the link-up play between the two has seen them smash the likes of Southampton, Manchester United and before their comeback, West Ham.

Say it slowly, but with Mourinho being the leader of this changing Tottenham orchestra from the sidelines, there are those making sounds that they could potentially win the title this season.
