Robbie Savage thinks Manchester United should have signed Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Allan Saint-Maximin, from Newcastle United instead of Antony.
The former midfielder also questioned ‘why’ a team from the Premier League’s so-called ‘top six’ haven’t tried to sign the ‘outstanding’ Newcastle United winger.
Tottenham and Chelsea have put the 25-year-old on their transfer radar this summer, but it doesn’t seem as though a move will materialise before Thursday’s cut-off point, which will delight Newcastle fans.

Whilst Manchester United were also keen on his services, they have since lured Ajax’s rising superstar, Antony, to Old Trafford where he re-unites with Erik ten Hag.
But this is what Savage had to say about Saint-Maximin’s talents and how he feels he is good enough to head to the next level, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
“Saint-Maximin for me is outstanding,” said Savage. “For me, why haven’t a top six side come in for him?
“I have seen speculation. I think Manchester United have been linked with him. But who haven’t they been linked with? They will finish in the top six, Manchester United.
“Looking at Antony at £100 million they are talking. I don’t know what the price of Saint-Maximin would be, but surely he could do it in the Premier League, I would have acquired.
“I think he’s worth £60-70 million – Get the ball and give it to Saint-Maximin because something is going to happen.”

CAN SAINT-MAXIMIN EARN FRANCE CALL?
After four Premier League games, Saint-Maximin has two assists and one goal to his name and that’s the standard he needs to continue with this season.
A devastating player that carries the ball for fun, Saint-Maximin can twist and turn the opposition and make them look foolish on some days, but not on most days.
That’s probably why he hasn’t yet earned that senior France call, but ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, could he make a surprise entry?
There is some serious talent and quality he has to compete with, but with Newcastle on the rise, then there’s no reason why he can’t, even if a call doesn’t come during these next few months.
