Ian Wright has backed Newcastle United to avoid relegation after Eddie Howe’s third win-in-a-row for the northeast side over the weekend.

Speaking on Wrighty’s House, the Premier League icon claimed that the Magpies have done enough in the past few games to separate themselves from the group fighting for safety in the English top-flight.

The Magpies currently sit four points clear of Norwich City with a game in hand as Newcastle continue to rise in the Premier League standings, with Howe’s January signings already impressing the St. James Park faithful.

Kieran Trippier scored the winning goal on Sunday against Villa with the England international already bagging two free-kicks for Newcastle since arriving from Atletico Madrid last month.

Whilst there are still 15 games of the season to play, Wright is confident that Newcastle are safe from relegation, with the Arsenal icon naming Norwich and Brentford as two clubs who should now fear the drop.

The pundit said: “I think Newcastle, with those three wins, it’s saved them. I look at Norwich and I tell you who I really worry for, Brentford. I thought they may have had enough points to keep them in a place where they might have been okay but…”

Newcastle are in a golden position, but relegation is still a possibility

Newcastle’s form in recent weeks has been a breath of fresh air for the Tyneside club, yet pundits and supporters are getting carried away that they’re safe from relegation just because of a few wins.

Indeed, the Premier League is an ever-changing beast, and the relegation scrap this year is likely to be one of the hardest to predict in some time. Whilst Newcastle do it sit in a great position, Howe’s side are far from out of the woods just yet with so much football left to be played.
