Eddie Howe has said that Newcastle United will be without Callum Wilson for eight weeks after the Toon’s 1-0 FA Cup loss to Cambridge United.
Speaking to Sky Sports News moments after their embarrassing loss to the League One side, the Newcastle manager revealed that the 29-year-old could be out for up to two months after having a scan.
Wilson came off injured in Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United in late December, with the former AFC Bournemouth star picking up a problem with his calf.
However, the full extent of the injury has now come to light, with Wilson now facing time on the injury table for as long as March, further adding to Newcastle’s woes after one of their worst results in some time against Cambridge.
The U’s claimed a historic win at St. James Park as Newcastle struggled to break down Cambridge. And speaking after the match, Howe made things worse for the Magpies after confirming that Wilson will be out with injury for eight weeks.
The Newcastle manager said: “He had a scan yesterday because there was a slight doubt over his initial scan and we needed to let it heal a bit further. I think he’s going to be out for eight weeks.”
Striker now key for Newcastle after Cambridge loss and Wilson blow

As far as Saturday’s go, this has been one of the worst for Newcastle fans in some time after losing to Cambridge and then discovering Wilson will now be out injured until March. And the one-two blow of bombshells highlights the urge for Howe to sign an attacker.
The finishing was poor against Cambridge, and with Newcastle now missing Wilson for eight weeks, the northeast side need to work now to sign a striker that could be the key to them staying up this season.
