Eddie Howe is reportedly trying to re-sign Jefferson Lerma at Newcastle United.
The newly-appointed Magpies boss is charged with the task of leading Newcastle away from the relegation zone in the Premier League.
Howe’s side are 19th in the table and five points adrift of safety as of right now.
And according to 90 Min, the 43-year-old is keen to bring some of his Bournemouth players to St James’s Park.
Howe signed Lerma for the Cherries back in 2008.
And former Newcastle defender Jonathan Woodgate, who managed the South American, is a massive fan of the player.
In May of this year, he said to The Echo: “I’m his biggest fan. I think he’s unbelievable. If I can describe a six to anyone, he’s my favourite. He’s a six and he’s magnificent.
“He gives you absolutely everything every single game. Heads it, runs, tackles, passes. He’s a special player for me.”
‘Special player’
Clearly Howe is a fan of the Colombian midfielder as well, hence why he spent a club-record £25 million on the player three years ago.
Newcastle do need toughening up in midfield, too, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Howe genuinely wants him on Tyneside.
If he doesn’t, someone very similar to Lerma would not go amiss.
