Clinton Morrison has labelled Dejan Kulusevski an ‘unbelievable player’ for Tottenham Hotspur, but does not believe he is anywhere near as influential as Harry Kane or Son Heung-min.
The Juventus attacker has been a revelation since joining Spurs on loan from the Italian giants in January.
Since arriving in North London, Kulusevski has scored three goals and set up another six in 12 Premier League appearances.
The Lilywhites have now gone three hours of football without scoring a goal following tonight’s 0-0 draw with Brentford, illustrating that combating Kane and Son does completely negate Antonio Conte’s side.
And although Morrison has told Sky’s Soccer Saturday program that the Sweden international is a cracking player, Son and Kane remain their most influential duo by a mile.
He said: “Tottenham are not a one-man team – they’re a two-man team: Kane and Son. Kulusevski’s okay. No Kulusevski’s top drawer – I think he’s unbelievable – but he [Merson] is talking about stand-out players. And they’re the two stand-out players.”
Matter of time
Indeed, Morrison is bang on the money.
Although talented, Kulusevski isn’t at the moment considered at the level of Son or Kane.
He is more in the region of how Lucas Moura has been considered important and perhaps that is Spurs’ problem.
As Morrison says, even being a two-man team isn’t sufficient in the Premier League. You do need other avenues, other sources of goals for when the main pair aren’t doing the business.
That being said, Kulusevski has only been in England for three months and based on how quick he has adapted, there is every chance he could hit that level eventually.
In fact, it might only be a matter of time.
