Gianluca Di Marzio has been speaking to Wett Freunde about Mohamed Salah, and the Egyptian’s contract situation at Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, Salah’s contract with Liverpool expires in June 2023, and negotiations over a new deal have not yet progressed.

The Times believe the 29-year-old wants £400,000-a-week to stay at Anfield, which would see him double his current £200,000-a-week wages.

Salah himself even admitted to Sky Sports that he’d like to retire at Liverpool, but it doesn’t depend on him.

Now, Di Marzio has revealed he thinks the 71-cap Egypt international will sign a new deal, mainly because “no other club can afford him”.

The Italian journalist said: “I think he will sign a new contract with Liverpool. No other club can afford him. No other club needs that position. Barcelona have no money. I think Real Madrid will get Mbappé. PSG have Neymar and Messi. In Italy, nobody.”

That should be music to the Liverpool fanbase’s ears.

As stressful as it’s been for Liverpool and the supporters, this situation has come at a good time.

As Di Marzio states, Barcelona are struggling financially, whereas Real Madrid are putting all of their eggs in the Kylian Mbappé basket.

Then, Paris Saint-Germain have just signed Lionel Messi of all people, so they have no need for Salah as they both occupy the same areas.

Italian clubs don’t possess the finances, nor do German clubs, so Liverpool aren’t actually at risk of someone coming in with a £200m offer, for example, to turn Salah’s head.

Now, it’s just up to Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to meet his demands.

If they somehow manage to mess it up and lose Salah, they may never be forgiven by the Anfield faithful, nor by Klopp.
