Paul Scholes feels that Arsenal will be coming up against Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday.

Arsenal bounced back from their defeat at Liverpool by beating Newcastle United this past weekend.

But Thursday represents a much tougher test for the Gunners, who gear up for a trip to Manchester United.

It looks poised to be Ralf Rangnick’s first game as Red Devils boss, after replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis.

Ronaldo was dropped for Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

But United legend Scholes reckons that Rangnick will recall him v Arsenal who, in his mind, are ‘nowhere near’ as good as the Premier League’s elite clubs.

He told Optus Sport: “I’d play a centre-forward. I think Cristiano will play. They’ll be more attacking. Arsenal are nowhere near the quality of Chelsea, the quality of Liverpool, the quality of Man City.”

Arsenal have a pretty good defence this season.

Okay they shipped nine goals to Manchester City and Liverpool but, for the most part, Mikel Arteta has them relatively solid.

But Thursday is, as Scholes says, a much harder test and it’ll be fascinating to see how they cope against the likes of Ronaldo at Old Trafford.

The 36-year-old will be motivated to kick off the Rangnick era in style and Ben White and Gabriel will have to be at the peak of their powers for the North Londoners.
