West Ham star Angelo Ogbonna has lauded Michail Antonio following his latest heroics for the east London side.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, the Italian defender was full of praise for the 31-year-old striker. Antonio bagged a late winner for David Moyes’ side over the weekend against Leeds United.
The Jamaican international is now tied with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Mohamed Salah at the top of the Premier League scoring charts with five goals. Antonio has been one of West Hams’ best performing players this season.
Indeed, the former Nottingham Forest star was key to the Hammers qualifying for Europe last season. And Ogbonna was amazed by how Antonio dug in deep against Leeds to secure the three points for the Irons.
The £10m signing from Juventus said: “It’s another goal for Michail Antonio and he just likes to score. The job that he did today for us was unbelievable. And not just him, but the two guys in the middle of the park, Said (Benrahma), Jarrod (Bowen) as well.
Ogbonna added: “He (Antonio) played the three games this week and we can’t forget that. I think he did really well.”
With West Ham aiming for a second European finish this season, keeping Antonio fit and firing will be key to Moyes securing a top-seven place in the Premier League.
The attacker is the Hammers only natural striker in the squad. And Moyes will have to rely on Antonio’s goalscoring form if West Ham are to finish high in the league standings this season.
