Jose Enrique has suggested that Kylian Mbappe didn’t join Liverpool because ‘they didn’t pay’ him what Paris Saint-Germain are now paying one of the world’s best players, as he posted on Twitter.

Prior to the 2022 summer transfer window opening, there was a lot of talk about Mbappe’s future and where he could head in his career.

The World Cup winner was due to be a free-agent, with well-documented claims that Real Madrid wanted to sign him, as well as Liverpool being admirers.

Rather than move, he stayed put, to the surprise of some and he signed a big-money contract with the Ligue 1 champions.

A lot has been made of Mbappe’s new PSG contract, how much money he is earning on a weekly basis and whether he holds a certain amount of power at the club.

Either way, when the 23-year-old suggested ‘I talked to Liverpool’, this is what Enrique had to say in response.

WILL MBAPPE COME TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE?

At this stage of Mbappe’s career, he’s making a name for himself on what many would perceive as a smaller stage in European football.

Moving to La Liga and signing for a Real Madrid or joining the Premier League would certainly elevate his status further.

The Premier League certainly has the money to lure him, perhaps only one team – Manchester City – could pay him the stupid amounts that he wants.

The Reds have the cash, but don’t splash it out like their Premier League rivals, although, to their advantage, Mbappe has spoken about his love for the Merseyside giants before.
