Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to Manchester City drawing Villarreal in for the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League on Monday.
Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten in the final by Chelsea last season and they will be looking to go one better this time around by winning their first-ever Champions League trophy.
Whilst the blue half of Manchester will travel to Spain for their knockout games, it’s a trip to Austria for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will face-off against Salzburg, who are in the knockout stages for the first time in their history and hoping to add a record-breaking seventh European crown to their Anfield cabinet.
Whilst Liverpool fans will be glad that they have avoided the bigger teams in the draw, they have spoken about how Man City have seemingly been provided with an easier draw once again.
It has to be said, on paper, it’s a far more difficult tie for the Premier League champions because they are facing off against the Europa League champions.
But, of course, it could have, as Manchester United will testify after being plucked out alongside Paris Saint-Germain, a lot more different and difficult.
Unai Emery already knows what it’s like to enjoy success against a Manchester-based club because they beat Man United in the final of the Europa League last season.
And if he manages to pull off a victory here – over the two legs – then it would be one of the shock results of the tournament, no doubt.
But both Man City and Liverpool, given who they have been drawn up against, should progress to the next round.
Given the strength of English teams in Europe in recent years, it would be a surprise if one of them doesn’t make the final after an all-English affair last season.
