Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has been discussing Fabinho amid a poor run of form for Liverpool.

The midfielder just hasn’t looked himself this season. He’s been a beat behind when it comes to defensive awareness, he’s lacking intensity and he’s looking decidedly slower.

After a poor run, Fabinho has become a bit of a scapegoat, and many are wondering whether or not the Brazilian is no longer the player he once was.

However, Merson is yet to change his mind about the former Monaco man, stating that he still thinks he’s a good player and that something just isn’t clicking right now.

The pundit discussed the midfielder.

“Everybody’s been highlighting Fabinho on this run. He’s been out of the team and injured as well, and I still think he’s a good player. He’s not the only player in their midfield. Liverpool’s midfield trio has been the bedrock of their success, and it’s just not clicking at the moment,” Merson wrote.

Lacking confidence

As the old saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent.

Fabinho hasn’t just suddenly lost all of his ability overnight, but what he has seemingly lost is his confidence.

After a poor start to the season, the South American has seemingly lost a lot of belief in himself, and that is showing on the pitch.

His off the ball work has been lax, but he’s also looking unsure on the ball, and that is effecting every part of Liverpool’s game.

Fabinho used to be the lynchpin in this Liverpool side, but now, with each passing week he’s looking more and more like a liability.

Fingers crossed the midfielder can rediscover his best form, because he is one of the Premier League’s top players.
