Former Liverpool player Dejan Lovren has added his voice to the backlash against the European Super League, and claimed that football could collapse because of it.

Liverpool announced their intention to join the newly formed league system last night.

Club legends, including Jamie Carragher, have already forcefully spoken out against Liverpool’s plans.

And Lovren has now suggested that the Reds and every other side who join the European Super League are making a poor decision, which puts football’s whole future at risk.

The consequences of Liverpool’s decision to join the Super League are yet to be found out.

UEFA are holding a meeting today, where punishments for the 12-founding clubs will be discussed.

Liverpool have always been championed as the peoples’ club, and news of their intention to join has received particularly harsh criticism, due to the club’s ideology.

Liverpool are actually in action against Leeds United tonight, but the game rather pales into insignificance after last night’s news.
