BBC Sport reporter Darren Fletcher has said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:57pm, May 28, 2021) that Eddie Howe could still end up at Celtic.
The well-known and well-respected broadcaster has said that he has spoken to somebody today who has told him that the Howe deal with Celtic could still go through.
Earlier today, the Bhoys announced on their official website that Howe will not become the club’s new manager “for reasons outwith both his and Celtic’s control”.
Fletcher said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:57pm, May 28, 2021): “I spoke to somebody today who said that it might not be dead in the water, that people might have jumped the gun a little bit. It might not be completely closed.”
It is quite a claim from Fletcher, especially after Celtic’s statement which makes it clear that Howe will not come to the Hoops.
The Daily Mail among other media outlets have claimed that talks broke down over Howe’s backroom staff.
However, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton does not believe that it is the reason.
Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:57pm, May 28, 2021): “I find it odd the backroom staff story because if they had been in talks for a long, long time, this seem to be ongoing for weeks, if not months, that Eddie Howe would have nailed down his backroom staff and that would have been a done deal, I smell a rat somewhere.”
Howe is a very good manager who did well during his time at Bournemouth in the Premier League.
It will be interesting to see if the Englishman does end up at the Scottish giants.
At the moment, it does not appear that Howe will take charge of Celtic, especially after the official statement from the Glasgow club.
