Celtic legend Scott Brown has a big decision to make over the coming months.
The inspirational Hoops skipper is turning 36 this summer and with his contract winding down, Brown must decide whether to call time on his illustrious career or plod on.
He will have wanted to captain Celtic to a historic 10 Premiership titles in a row but, with an 18-point deficit from Rangers at the summit, that’s almost certainly not going to happen now.
One man who definitely is leaving Parkhead at the end of the season is chief executive Peter Lawwell.
And Brown has revealed that Lawwell told him this week that he has complete freedom to do what he likes at Lennoxtown, whether that’s stick around for another year or move into the coaching side of things.
Brown, a £4.4 million signing in 2007, told The Scotsman: “I spoke to Peter about the situation a couple of days ago as well and he says he it is completely and utterly up to myself whether I want to stay or go into a coaching role.”
The former Scotland midfielder is a class act and he wouldn’t stay for another year unless he thought he still had something to offer the team.
Yes, he isn’t as influential as he once was, but it’ll be a big fight for Celtic to wrestle their title back off the Ibrox outfit next season and the Bhoys’ new manager – whoever that happens to be – is going to need fighters to do that.
And nobody at Lennoxtown will be more hungry than Brown to bring the title back to Parkhead.
