Jamie Carragher has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti has proven at Real Madrid, compared to Everton, that he is ’suited more than anything’ to having the ‘top players’.

The TV pundit added that he ‘spoke with Frank Lampard and John Terry’ and they told him how they just loved Ancelotti as a character, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (06/04/22 at 10:35 pm).

Heading into the 2021/22 Premier League season, Everton thought they were going to have Ancelotti at the helm, before Madrid came knocking and he headed back to the Bernabeu.

On Wednesday night, Ancelotti was back in England when his Madrid side beat Chelsea 3-1 in the first-leg of their quarter-final Champions League tie.

Carragher spoke about the Italian’s time at Everton and why it didn’t suit him, as he now has one foot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

“I think he’s a manager who is suited, more than anything, to having the top players,” said Carragher.

“Now, he was managing Everton. At a club like Everton, you maybe have to work more with the players. You don’t have the great players. You may have to change things, do more coaching and give them more information.

“I spoke to Frank Lampard and John Terry when he was at Chelsea. They loved him, not that he is a great tactician like Mourinho.

“They loved him as a guy. Every club he has been at. I think he just suits having the big stars.”

Everton wouldn’t have been pulling up trees if Ancelotti was still in their dugout.

But, they probably wouldn’t be in such a mess because his summer exit just further opened the cracks on the blue half of Merseyside.

It all stems from the top and now the inexperienced Lampard is tasked to try and guide them out of trouble.

Defeat at Burnley on Wednesday night didn’t help matters and things don’t get easier as a tricky final run-in now awaits them in their relegation dogfight.
