Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Storybook, Kyle Walker has been discussing his career to date and his move to Manchester City.

Walker, of course, cut his teeth at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League where he established himself as one of the division’s best full-backs.

However, after failing to win any silverware with Spurs, Walker decided to leave, but this wasn’t a straight-forward decision.

Indeed, the right-back, rightly, points out that Tottenham had actually finished above Manchester City the season before he decided to leave, but conversations with both John Stones and Raheem Sterling convinced him that this move was the right one to make.

Sterling and Stones convinced Walker

Walker says that the Chelsea winger and his England teammate told him to join City.

“Obviously being at Tottenham for the amount of years I was at Tottenham, we actually finished above Man City the season before I came to Man City. I spoke to John and I spoke to Raheem about Pep’s philosophy and what he was like as a person to work under,” Walker said.

“I had a great relationship with Pochettino and Tottenham were building a great philosophy at the time, but I spoke to John and I spoke to Raz and that set in stone that I wanted to come to work under this manager at this great football club.”

Right decision

Say what you will about Walker’s loyalty or lack thereof, joining Manchester City was the best decision he’s made in his career so far.

Indeed, he’s won countless trophies since joining the Cityzens, and it’s fair to say that he wouldn’t have done the same if he was at Tottenham.

Walker’s time at City has cemented his legacy as one of the best full-backs to ever play in this league.
