Speaking to SportsLens, Ray Parlour has shared what he knows about Arsenal’s transfer plans after having a conversation with Edu during pre-season.

Edu and Parlour, of course, used to be teammates at Arsenal, and they’re seemingly still in touch.

Parlour was being asked about the Gunners’ links to Mykhaylo Mudryk as of late, and he says that while he doesn’t know much about Mudryk, Edu did tell him that he was looking for a winger the last time the pair spoke about the north London club’s transfer plans.

Edu wants a winger

Parlous shared details of the conversation he had with Edu in the summer.

“I haven’t seen a lot of him specifically but I do know Edu was looking for a winger when I spoke to him in preseason. He wanted a winger who could go past someone and offer something a bit different to what they’ve got now. Someone pacy like a Marc Overmars… that’s what I’d be looking to bring in,” Parlour said.

Have things changed?

It’s been reported for a little while now that Arsenal have been in the market for a winger, hence the links to the likes of Raphinha and Pedro Neto in the summer.

The desire for a wide forward seems to have persisted via links to Mudryk, but we have to wonder whether or not things have now changed.

Indeed, Gabriel Jesus’ injury has certainly thrown a spanner in the works, and the Gunners’ need for a striker may now be greater than their need for a winger.

With Emile Smith Rowe on his way back and Reiss Nelson still at the club, Arsenal are actually quite well-stocked on the wings, so perhaps they’d be better off targeting a centre-forward in the upcoming transfer window.
