Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be playing against Arsenal.
The midfielder was one of the stars of the show against Brentford at the weekend. He started the game in an advanced role on the wing, before shifting back into the midfield.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was excellent in both roles, but sadly, he did pick up an injury during the match.
Unfortunately, the 28-year-old will not be able to play against Arsenal, but Lijnders says that he is hopeful of playing at the weekend.
What’s Lijnders said about Oxlade-Chamberlain?
The Assistant Manager shared an update on the midfielder.
“I think if we speak about Ox, if we’re going to discuss him we should speak about his outstanding performance first of all. He was very important for us and for the team, he played in so many positions and with so much quality. I spoke to him yesterday with him, and he’s ok, it’s not that bad. He’s hoping to make the weekend to be honest, but for tomorrow it will be way too soon,” Lijnders said.

Frustrating
This is a rather frustrating update for Oxlade-Chamberlain and Liverpool.
The Englishman was getting into his stride for the Reds, but now, he’s going to be out of action for a crucial clash against his former club.
Luckily, Takumi Minamino showed at the weekend that he’s a capable replacement on the wing, so don’t be surprised if the Japan international gets the nod against the Gunners.
Fingers crossed Oxlade-Chamberlain will be back in action sooner rather than later.
