Callum Wilson has shared that Tyrone Mings is ‘very positive’ following the Aston Villa centre-back’s horror injury at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The Newcastle United striker has backed his fellow countryman to come back ‘stronger than ever’ after he previously suffered a long-term injury at Bournemouth, as he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
Ironically enough, Eddie Howe was the Bournemouth manager, at the time, and Callum Wilson was his teammate and the duo have since sent their best wishes to the player.
It’s a massive body blow for Tyrone Mings and Aston Villa because they made a return to Europe this season, and if he performed well, he knows that he would have earned that ticket to Euro 2024 with Gareth Southgate’s England.
But now his mind and effort will be on trying to get back to action, with no time frame on how long he will be out.
Just like Emiliano Buendia, who also suffered his own long-term knee injury during training, if they get back this season, then it would be a big plus.

“Villa are a top side, we played them in pre-season and it was 3-3,” said Wilson. “We were 2-0 down after ten minutes, so I thought, it’s going to be a difficult game on the weekend.
“Unfortunately, they had a few injuries and things that happened. God bless, Mingsy. A friend of mine. Disappointed to see him like that.
“I spoke to him. He’s very positive. I don’t want to disclose the details of the injury. But he is a fighter. He has been out before and he will be back again.
“He has done his ACL, which is unfortunate. I have been there twice. I have been there once before on his debut. It’s a dark place, but you need everybody around you, but he will come back stronger than ever, I am sure.”

Life after Mings and Buendia
These two were crucial to Villa getting into Europe and they were expected to play key roles for the team this season.
But now Unai Emery has to plan without them for the long-term, including trying to get back into Europe without them again.
Those already in the building now have to step up, as well as the possibility that new faces are brought in during the 2023 summer transfer window, with talk that Nicolo Zaniolo is on his way to Villa Park.
