Tim Sherwood has shared that Newcastle legend Alan Shearer told him that the atmosphere at St James’ Park is now like it was ‘in the late 90s’, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (23/04/22 at 2:30 pm).
It would have been unheard of for the Newcastle fans back in November, but they have now won six games on the bounce at home.
Added with that, Eddie Howe’s side recently beat Norwich City 3-0 over the weekend to move into the Premier League’s top ten.
It has been quite the turnaround from the club because many were expecting the Saudi-led club to be in a relegation dogfight heading into the final few weeks, but they are currently dreaming of a top ten finish now.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that the mood, vibe and atmosphere inside St James’ Park is at a high, as Sherwood praised Howe for the job he has done.
“I spoke to Alan Shearer the other day,” said Sherwood. “He said the atmosphere there now is like it was in the late 90s’.
“I mean it’s incredible. The turnaround. The new owners. They got Mike Ashley out and the new owners in there. They took Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall and they have done a wonderful job.
“It’s amazing. The turnaround in fortunes is great. Obviously, they helped them in the transfer market.”
One of the success stories from Howe’s reign so far has been someone like Joelinton.
The Brazil star netted a brace over the weekend as Newcastle secured three points at Carrow Road.
From the struggling striker under Steve Bruce that fans would have been happy to see leave, to the all-action and hard-hitting midfielder that will probably be the club’s Player of the Year when the final ball is kicked.
Whilst the January transfer window has helped Howe, he has also improved many players within the squad that have improved ten-fold.
