Mark Lawrenson has shared that he ‘spoke’ to Aston Villa coach, Gary McAllister, about the club’s transfers at the end of last season.
The Liverpool legend added that Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff member told him that Villa were planning to do business this summer, but the ‘one problem’ was that they needed to get ‘a few out as well’.
Well, Villa did pay big bucks for centre-back Diego Carlos early on in the window, only for him to suffer a cruel long-term injury two games into his career in the Midlands.

France international Boubacar Kamara was another top capture from Villa, with the midfielder joining from Marseille on a free transfer.
But there is worry from Villa fans that they haven’t done enough business and there is hope another midfielder, defender and possibly attacker could be added to their squad on transfer deadline day.
Could the fact that players haven’t been leaving in their droves play a part in the lack of incomings, well judging by Lawrenson’s comments on Off the Ball, it seems as though that was one of the issues before the window opened.
“I spoke to Gary McAllister right until the end of last season and I said ‘would you be doing much business in the transfer (market)?'” said Lawrenson.
“And he said ‘yeh, one of the problems is that we need to get a few out as well’. But he (Gerrard) has certainly brought in enough players.”

PLAYERS FROZEN OUT BY GERRARD
There are a number of senior players who have hardly been used by Gerrard this season that probably need to find a new home.
Morgan Sanson and Fred Guilbert are two that seem to have no chance to turn things around in B6, whilst Marvelous Nakamba was used by Gerrard last season, but is yet to earn any minutes this term.
It will be interesting to see if any of those head for the exit door ahead of Thursday’s cut-off point.
But will they stay on board because it’s not like Gerrard’s job at Villa is safe, there is every chance he could be sacked if results continue to go wrong for the former midfielder.
