Laura Woods has stated that Steven Gerrard ‘breathes every play of the ball’ when he is in Aston Villa’s dugout, as she told talkSPORT.
The Sky Sports presenter interviewed the Villa manager before and after their 2-1 win against Leicester City on Sunday.
Given the nature of her work, Woods is lucky enough to be pitchside to watch the action unfold.
And in what would have been Gerrard’s third home game in charge, she watched him strut his business inside his technical area over the weekend.
Woods shared that she doesn’t sit that far away from the recently-appointed Villa coach when he in the dugout, as she shared how passionate he is on the sidelines.
“I was just a little star-struck (interviewing him),” said Woods. “It happens sometimes. I haven’t worked with him much, if at all before. I did speak to the players and they said ‘I am loving playing with him’.
“What I love as well, so I did a pre-match interview with him, I just sit to the left of the dugout and where the players sit. The subs bench. And he was in the technical area just to my right.
“What I really enjoyed watching, and if you watched the game they probably cut to this a few times as well, is that he literally breathes every play of the ball.
“Everything that happens is that his emotions are going along with it. If they scuff an opportunity, his aggression and anger is visible. You can actually feel it. I can totally see how that translates into the dressing room.”

This Saturday, Gerrard will return to familiar surroundings when Villa travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool.
For the first time in his career, Gerrard will come up against Liverpool and stand in the Anfield dugout.
It will no doubt be an emotional moment for the legendary midfielder, but given his mindset, he will brush that to one side and focus on getting all three points.
Villa are in a strong vein of form and full of confidence, so they will definitely go to Anfield on the front foot and look to cause as much damage as possible.
