Paul Merson believes that Arsenal could well make a move to sign Wilfried Zaha next summer.

The Gunners tried and failed to add a winger to Mikel Arteta’s squad before the summer transfer window shut, with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Yeremy Pino linked with moves which never materialised.

Zaha has scored a brilliant 14 Premier League goals this calendar year – including five during the current campaign – and at 29, he’s in the prime of his career.

The Crystal Palace attacker, who earns £130,000 per week at Selhurst Park, is out of contract with the Londoners next summer.

And although Merson can see someone like Arsenal going for him, the Sky Sports pundit believes that Zaha would be wise to stay put and argued that he simply won’t play as regularly anywhere else as he does with the Eagles.

He told The Daily Star: “I see someone like Arsenal coming in for him if they get into the Champions League but do you go there and risk becoming a bit-part player? I’m just not sure whether the grass is going to be greener for Zaha. He’s playing the best football of his career and there is a reason for that. He needs to sit down and have a big think about his future.”

Merson could well be right in saying Arsenal will be interested – and more significantly, the feeling might well be mutual.

Everyone knows that Zaha is a lifelong fan of the Emirates Stadium outfit and having failed at an elite club already, following a poor spell at Manchester United, he’ll be desperate to prove himself once again.

And at 29, will he get another chance beyond 2023? Probably not.
