‘I see better players’: Alan Shearer shares who has a better squad – Arsenal or Tottenham

Alan Shearer thinks Tottenham have a better squad than Arsenal and Mikel Arteta has been ‘punching above their weight’.

On Monday night, Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United, as Arteta and his players opened the Champions League door for their bitter rivals.

All Tottenham have to do now is secure a point away at already-relegated Norwich City on the final day of the Premier League campaign and they will make a return to Champions League football next season.

That will only further enhance their squad because they will be able to shop for the designer clothing because they are now amongst the elite again.

Of course, the job still has to be done on Sunday, as Shearer told Premier League Productions that he sees ‘better players’ at Tottenham compared to Arsenal.

“I think they have been punching above their weight in terms of their position,” said Shearer.

“When I look at their squad, compared to what Tottenham have got, I see better players, certainly in the forward positions. When you have Son, Kane and Kulusevski, then you have a much better chance.

“Arteta has taken big risks. He has put his neck on the line, in terms of the decisions he has made with Aubameyang. Players he has got out of the club, who he felt weren’t right.

“He has got rid of them to the detriment of the team, at times. He left himself short in the forward positions – if he gets fourth, then that’s one hell of an achievement.”

Last week, Arsenal were heading into the north London derby knowing three points would help secure Champions League football.

It was never going to be an easy task, but win in Tottenham’s backyard and they would have sent their fans into party mode.

Instead, the music can be heard from Hotspur Way because it’s Tottenham that have flipped all of this on its head, and in truth, Arsenal only have themselves to blame.

Even if others around them have better squads, and at the end of the day, given the position that they were in, it has been a ‘Spursy’ reaction from them.
