Wayne Rooney has admitted that he has seen the speculation linking him with the vacant manager’s role at Newcastle United, as he told Derbyshire Live.
Newcastle sacked Bruce on Wednesday and now the club are starting a process to bring in a replacement.
A whole host of names are being linked with the job, including the surprising one of Rooney’s, who is currently sitting bottom of the table with Derby in England’s second-tier.
Given the wealth Newcastle’s new owners have to throw at Bruce’s replacement, it would be a surprise if they pushed for someone with such little experience as Rooney’s.
But when the 35-year-old, who is 25 years younger than Bruce, was asked about those Newcastle rumours, he issued this response.
“I saw that this morning [Tuesday],” said Rooney. “”From my point of view I cannot stop speculation.
“I get that, but I have had no contact at all with Newcastle United and obviously, as I have stated before, I am committed to this football club.”

Both Derby and Newcastle couldn’t be more far apart than one another, when it comes to wealth and their current financial condition.
The Premier League side are probably ready to throw hundreds and hundreds of millions at players, managers, their stadium, staff and the academy.
Whilst those in the Pride Park boardroom recently put the club into administration, which resulted in a points deduction and more could come their way.
Not so long ago, both were playing in the Championship, but it just goes to show what can happen with a quick turnaround.
