‘I saw’: Ian Wright shares what happened in Arsenal’s warm-up that he hated seeing

Ian Wright has told the Wrighty’s House podcast that he was not a fan of Arsenal’s warm-up before their game against Manchester United.

Wright paid close attention to Arsenal’s strikers as they practiced at Old Trafford, and he said that every single shot they took failed to hit the back of the net.

While Arsenal actually went on to produce an excellent performance and beat United 1-0, they have since been exposed by Aston Villa.

The Gunners were heavily beaten on their last outing, which has left questions being asked of Arteta and Arsenal’s squad.

And Wright says that he was confused to see such a lack of intensity from Arsenal’s players.

“I watched the warm up before the games,” he said. “I saw one when Arsenal played Manchester United. They were having a shooting session down in the corner and they had nine shots, with all the main characters – Auba, Laca.

“Every single one of them missed. It was telling. Even though we beat United, when you look at the chances being converted at the moment.

“I do not like seeing in a warm-up shooting session, people not shooting as if they are playing in a game.

“We’re talking about missing the target, sloppy shots. Shots that went straight to the goalkeeper with no challenges.

“All those things make you look into the team and what’s going on and I’m confused because it seems like we have a manager who will not tolerate anything other than the best you’ve got to give. I’m really confused at the minute.”

Aubameyang and Lacazette haven’t just been failing to score in Arsenal’s warm-ups.

Worryingly for the Gunners, their two main goalscorers have also looked massively out of form on the pitch, and that has contributed towards their struggles.

Arteta’s side are currently in 11th place in the Premier League table, with their next game coming against Leeds United after the international break.
