Ian Wright has claimed that it would be ‘amazing’ if Arsenal were able to sign Gini Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain, as he told Premier League Productions (06/01/22 at 12:55 pm).

The former striker thinks Arsenal could do with a player of Wijnaldum’s ilk because of ‘that experience’ he has in his locker.

Last summer, Wijnaldum left Liverpool on a free transfer and moved across the channel to France to line up for PSG.

But it hasn’t gone as well as the one-time Premier League winner would have liked and he may be heading back down these shores.

Sky Sports reported that Wijnaldum is open to returning to England during the January transfer window and Arsenal could be a possible destination.

After hearing about those rumours, Wright explained why Arsenal should push to sign the Dutchman.

“I saw Wijnaldum’s name,” said Wright. “That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG.

“Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and a Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.

“Then, they can add to the squad and, all of a sudden, Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously.”

Thomas Partey is heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations, and for Arsenal, at the wrong time because he was just hitting serious form.

But that will be Ghana’s gain and he will be hoping to guide his nation to glory during these coming weeks.

Given that situation, it will be interesting if Arteta looks to bring in fresh faces this month, especially in the middle of the park.

It could be argued that Arsenal needed more cover aside from Partey and Granit Xhaka, with Albert Sambi Lokonga still a young gun.
