Andros Townsend has told talkSPORT (10/11/20 at 8:40 am) that playing in Jamie Carragher’s last game for Liverpool at Anfield was ‘one of the best’ atmospheres he has ever experienced.
The game in question Townsend is talking about took place in 2013 when he was playing for QPR – Liverpool ended up winning 1-0 on that day.
At one moment during the match, the crowd urged Carragher to take a shot from about 30 yards out, he obliged and amazingly enough his effort hit the crossbar.
Townsend referenced that moment when talking about how that Anfield atmosphere was one of the best he has witnessed as a player.
“I actually played in Jamie Carragher’s last game at Anfield,” said Townsend. “And the atmosphere there was probably one of the best I have ever experienced as a player.
“It was literally incredible. The send-off he got and rightly so. I remember somehow from 25 yards he has hit a screamer and it hit the bar. If that had gone one in then the place would have literally erupted.
“Yes, that atmosphere sticks in my mind.”

Whilst supporters haven’t been able to go into crowds of late because of obvious reasons, the new crop of Liverpool players and their manager have made Anfield a fortress once again.
The Reds are 63 games unbeaten on home soil and whilst they have been unstoppable in recent times, they may now find maintaining that run that little bit harder.
Opposing teams will find it easier playing Liverpool in their own back yard because there is no crowd and that might also tempt them to be more attacking, which could down the line result in a surprise or two.
