Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has tipped Unai Emery to eventually replace Eddie Howe at Newcastle United.

Howe has done a fantastic job with the Magpies so far, but as the Tyneside club spend more and more, they could outgrow their manager rather quickly.

Ferdinand says that Howe will eventually be moved on, and he’s tipped the current Villarreal boss to take his place.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand spoke about Emery replacing Howe.

“Eddie Howe deserves the credit. He was the perfect guy, he’s no trouble, he’s very calm and very measured in his approach. They needed that because you can get carried away when you have all of this money in the club. He was very calm, this could have blown up in their faces, but he’s stabilised them,” Ferdinand said.

“He’ll get moved on and he’ll have a lot of clubs waiting. I reckon they go and get Emery.”

Smart move

Appointing Emery after Howe’s tenure is over would be a smart move from the Magpies.

The Spaniard knows how to win. He’s the most successful gaffer in Europa League history, while he’s also won a league title with PSG.

The fact that he got Villarreal to a Champions League semi-final this season should tell you all you need to know about him. He’s an incredible manager, and he’s even been labelled as ‘brilliant’ by Gary Lineker recently.

Factor in that Emery also has a score to settle in the Premier League, and you have a managerial appointment that makes a lot of sense.

PIF are clearly fans of Emery. After all, they tried to hire him before bringing Howe to the club, and, in our view, Ferdinand’s prediction could be spot on.
