Kevin Campbell has encouraged Arsenal to go and sign Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish this summer, but acknowledged that it may not be the most realistic of transfer pursuits.
Arsenal are going to need somebody of Grealish’s ilk during the close season.
The Gunners have just lost Martin Odegaard who is heading back to parent club Real Madrid after a short-term loan in North London.
As things stand, it doesn’t seem all that likely that Mikel Arteta will be able to bring him back to the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis.
Sky Sports reported on Friday that Arsenal had launched a second £35 million bid for Emiliano Buendia.
The Aston Villa attacker is certainly in a similar mould and former Gunners hitman Campbell would love to see the 25-year-old in North London in time for next season.
He told The Highbury Squad: “I want Arsenal to go and get a marquee name. I really want the club and ownership to get a marquee name, whether that’s Grealish – that would be great! A lot of money, I totally understand that. Is that realistic? Probably not.”
Realistic?
Well, no.
Campbell is right in saying that it probably won’t happen and that’s because Grealish, according to The Mail, is worth £100 million.
With Arsenal’s transfer record being £72 million, the Englishman would smash the figure set by Nicolas Pepe two years ago.
And given the climate in which we live right now, with every club worse off financially than they were before the pandemic, breaking transfer records isn’t all that likely.
