Nicky Bandini has expressed her surprise at Liverpool transfer target Sofyan Amrabat still being at Fiorentina following his performances for Morocco at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The Italian football expert shared how Amrabat is a ‘Diego Simeone type of player’ and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in the 26-year-old, as she told Transfer Talk on Sky Sports.

Well, the Spanish giants aren’t the only ones keen to add Amrabat to their books because Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool is also an admirer of the ‘crazy player’

The Reds have already signed a player that shone at the World Cup, Netherlands star Cody Gakpo, who scored in every group game before Louis van Gaal’s side were knocked out by eventual winners, Argentina.

But that midfielder hasn’t arrived this month, with the club struggling further post-World Cup and in serious need of added quality and refreshment in the middle of the park.

Well, Amrabat is still in Florence and many within Italy felt that he would already be on the move because there was ‘so much buzz around him’ only a number of weeks ago.

“That’s someone I really thought was likely to move this transfer window,” said Bandini. “The most likely I thought was to go was him because there was so much buzz around him and Morocco had that World Cup.

“Fiorentina aren’t a wealthy club. They aren’t any strong interests as I expected. Atletico are the latest club to show interest and he is a very Simeone type of player. You can see that a lot.”

IS AMRABAT’S DOMESTIC FORM ENOUGH?

The issue here is that interested parties can’t just judge Amrabat purely on his performances at the World Cup because that could prove to be very dangerous.

On the domestic scene, he’s not actually shone brightly as he did for his nation on football’s biggest stage.

Amrabat’s form for Fiorentina for the past two seasons has been up and down, hence why he is still at the club and teams like Liverpool haven’t moved for him, although, anything can change.
