Alphonso Davies has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season. The Canadian, still only 19, has made the world stand up and take notice, and if he continues the same way, he will become one of the best in the world in his position very soon.

Davies has three goals and nine assists to his name in all competitions this season. That record is superior to many accomplished full-backs in the world which shows just how good he can be in a few years time.

The Bayern Munich man was asked to name who he thinks are the top five full-backs in world football at the moment and one of his picks was a real surprise.

He told 90min: “[Achraf] Hakimi is one of them. I really like how Benji [Pavard] plays, scoring goals and getting assists, so those two. Trent Alexander-Arnold definitely and I really like [Bukayo] Saka from Arsenal. He’s a really good player.”

Davies named himself as the other full-back on the list but Saka’s inclusion really is a shock. The Arsenal youngster, naturally an attacker, has had a breakthrough season at left-back this season.

Saka has scored four goals and has assisted 11 times in all competitions this term. The teenager clearly prefers to play further up the pitch and he been really impressive there as well.

Arsenal put an end to speculation regarding his future by extending his contract a few weeks ago. Saka is now an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s side but it is unlikely that he will feature a lot at left-back next season.

Kieran Tierney is Arsenal’s undisputed first choice at left full-back at the moment and that won’t change any time soon.

Saka will have to fight for a place with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe, and Davies’ praise should give him huge confidence to do just that next season.
