Paul Merson has shared that he always knew that Jesse Marsch would bring ‘positive action’ to Leeds and be ‘enthusiastic’ in the manner in which he talks, as he told Sky Sports News.
It was an emotional call by Leeds to sack Marcelo Bielsa, but this 100 miles-per-hour side were tumbling down the Premier League table.
It wasn’t a surprise that ex-RB Leipzig coach Marsch was handed the reigns to the Elland Road dugout because his style of play suits the club the most.
But, one thing is for sure, given his inexperience in England’s top-flight, he had one hell of a fight on his hands.
Merson was full of praise for the American for how well he has done from his opening few months and shared what he expected from him.
“I do (like what I see),” said Merson. “One thing you are sure of when you bring in an American coach is positive action. They talk well.
“At the time, people didn’t know him. I didn’t know him. I did think, with him being American, I thought he would be enthusiastic. I really did. And he has been that. Fair play.
“I know the first (home) game against Villa they got beat easily. But three wins and one draw, that is some doing.
“To be down the bottom of the league and you are reeling off three wins and a draw in four games. Fair play to the bloke – I think he has done really well.”

Leeds suffered two defeats from Marsch’s opening matches, before picking things up and pushing away from the drop zone.
From Leeds’ last-minute winner at home to Norwich City to their quite memorable comeback win at Wolves.
But, heading into their Monday night clash against Crystal Palace, this Leeds side have to look over their shoulder.
Burnley have picked up seven points since sacking Sean Dyche and have moved out of the bottom three, with Everton now occupying that final relegation spot.
