Ally McCoist has said on talkSPORT (8:39am, November 9, 2021) that he would take Dean Smith at Ibrox if Steven Gerrard leaves for Aston Villa.
What’s the story?
Rangers manager Gerrard has been linked with the vacant managerial role at Villa.
The Premier League club have made the former Liverpool midfielder their number one managerial target, according to The Daily Mail.
The report has even claimed that Gerrard would be interested in a move to Villa.
The Villans recently sacked Smith as their manager following a run of five defeats in the Premier League.
What Ally McCoist has said
Rangers legend McCoist has said that if Gerrard leaves, then he would have no problem in getting Smith to replace the Englishman.
McCoist said on talkSPORT (8:39am, November 9, 2021): “I really like Dean Smith, I do, yes.
“I think he is a good coach, a good manager. I would not have a problem with him being at my club.”

Dean Smith to Rangers?
Now, we cannot predict if Gerrard will leave Rangers for Villa now.
IF the Englishman does leave, then the Gers would have to find a suitable replacement straightaway.
Smith is available now, and he is a very good manager.
The Englishman guided Villa to promotion from the Championship and then kept them in the Premier League.
Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 30 points from 13 matches, four points clear of second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.
