Some Liverpool fans are buzzing over a reported plan for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Echo has reported that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to unleash the former Arsenal attacker in a different role.
According to the report, Oxlade-Chamberlain is impressing the Reds’ coaching staff and a number 10 role or wide forward position is being mulled over by the German manager.
Since joining the Anfield outfit four years ago, virtually all of the player’s minutes have come as a central midfielder.
But having managed only 243 minutes of Premier League football last season, it’s clear that he has very little future at Liverpool as that sort of player.
Here’s how some Reds fans reacted to the idea of him being given a more forward role going forward.
Inconsistent
This could get the best out of player, but there’s two things working against Oxlade-Chamberlain irrespective of where he plays.
Firstly, he has had quite a lot of injuries down the years and spent a year of his Liverpool career on the sidelines with a knee problem that he sustained in a Champions League semi-final in 2018.
But also, he is inconsistent and that’s an issue he has struggled with even going back to his days at Arsenal.
In terms of ability, Oxlade-Chamberlain is a beast but simply changing his position may not be the solution to unlocking the 27-year-old’s talent and maximising what he has.
