Andros Townsend told Sky Sports News (28/06/21 7:55 am) that Everton are about to make a ‘really good appointment’ with Rafa Benitez.
The Crystal Palace winger shared that the soon-to-be Everton boss is ‘good on the training pitch’ after he worked under him at Newcastle.
Even though Benitez has Liverpool connections and he is an Anfield legend, it seems as though he will be donning the colours of their rivals pretty soon.
But putting the rivalry aside, Townsend thinks that Everton are making the right move by securing the Spaniard’s coaching talents.
“I played under Rafa at Newcastle,” said Townsend. “So, I know how good of a manager he is.
“He’s good on the training pitch. He is always trying to work hard and he’s a good man as well. Good man-manager.
“So, taking out the rivalry, taking out the Liverpool-Everton. For on-pitch reasons, I think it’s a really good appointment.”

Everton need stability after going through a countless number of managers during these past few years.
Whilst they have been free-spending over the years, it might not stay that way when they move into their new stadium.
That’s why the Toffees need a safe pair of hands and stability by the time that moment comes around – and from their perspective, in Europe.
On paper, Benitez is a wise appointment, but given his Liverpool past, it does put a dark cloud over his appointment.
