Alan Hutton has described Rangers hitman Kemar Roofe as a ‘fantastic footballer’.

Roofe is blossoming into a massive player for the Gers, following a £4.5 million transfer during the summer of 2020 [Derniere Heure].

This season, the Englishman has netted 16 goals across all competitions, including a Scottish Premiership hat-trick against St Mirren earlier in April.

The former Leeds United attacker is also something of a playmaker and set up a goal in Rangers’ massive Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Celtic this past weekend.

That’s the sort of link-play that you seldom get from Alfredo Morelos.

And former Rangers defender Hutton – who played against Roofe in the Championship down South – has suggested he’s better rounded than his South American teammate.

He said via The Scottish Sun: “Roofe has had to bide his time behind Morelos. I played against him when he was at Leeds, so I’ve seen him up close and personal and I know that he is a fantastic footballer.

“Morelos is different. He can occupy two centre-backs, Roofe is not going to do that and you have to play to his strengths. Like you saw last Sunday for Scott Arfield’s goal, if you get bodies around Roofe in attacking areas, he can help to create.”

No doubt there’ll be more speculation about Morelos finally leaving Rangers this summer.

And if he’s successful this time, the light Blues’ support can rest easy knowing that Roofe can step up.

The former Anderlecht attacker is coming into the prime of his career and more he gets comfortable in Scotland, the better he’ll do in the goalscoring stakes.
