It’ll be interesting to see if Darwin Nunez starts for Liverpool this weekend.

The Reds kick off their Premier League title bid with a visit to newly-promoted Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Nunez joined Liverpool earlier this summer and became the club’s most-expensive addition of all time, following an £85 million transfer from Benfica.

With a massive price-tag comes massive pressure to succeed in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old opened his account with a debut goal in the 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield last week, a game in which he started on the bench.

Roberto Firmino started ahead of him as the focal point in Liverpool’s attack.

But Paul Merson, speaking to Sportskeeda, has intimated that he feels manager Jurgen Klopp should drop the Brazilian hitman in favour of his Uruguayan teammate at Craven Cottage.

He said: “I would start Darwin Nunez in this game. I only say that because this is not a game against one of the big six, and you know that Liverpool are going to dominate. Nunez needs to play in games where you know he’s going to score, and this is a great game for him to make his Premier League debut.”

Klopp is a massive fan of Firmino and only last week he described him as the ‘heart and soul’ of Liverpool [The Guardian], amid speculation the former Hoffenheim attacker could be leaving Anfield.

And to be honest, it’s very possible that the German manager will indeed keep faith with the 30-year-old and leave Nunez in reserve.

Say what you want about Firmino, but he’s been an outstanding player for the Merseysiders down the years and it isn’t beyond him to terrorise a newly-promoted club this weekend.
