Writing in his column for The Athletic, Jesse Marsch has been discussing Christian Pulisic ahead of the World Cup.

As an American, Marsch has been previewing how the USMNT will get on in Qatar, and he thinks that Pulisic could be the key player for Gregg Berhalter’s team in Qatar.

Marsch says that Pulisic has so much potential and that he could be their main attacking threat this summer if he’s used correctly.

Interestingly, Leeds were linked with a move for Pulisic in the summer, and Marsch has now admitted that he often ponders how a coach would be able to get the best out of Pulisic.

Marsch thinks about Pulisic a lot

The Leeds boss says he often thinks about how a manager can get the best out of the Chelsea star.

“With Christian, I don’t know him well enough, and I’ve said in the past that I would love to get to know him more because I can see that there’s so much potential there. But I often wonder how to tap into it, truly,” Marsch wrote.

“If we look at what Christian can bring to the U.S. at this World Cup, from a purely tactical perspective, he’s best in space. So in transition moments and when he can be on the run and use his combination of agility and speed and technical ability, that’s when he’s able to be at his best. That feeds more into the games where the U.S. are able to be a little bit more in pressing phases and are in more transition phases. We could see more of that in the England game.”

Marsch went on to discuss how Pulisic needs to improve his off-the-ball movement and how to work in tight spaces.

Interesting

It’s interesting to hear that Marsch has pondered Pulisic’s potential quite a lot. After all, Leeds did look at him this summer.

So, that begs the question, would Pulisic work in this Leeds team?

Well, Marsch says that Pulisic is at his best when he’s in space, but with this Leeds team playing quite a narrow style, he may not be afforded the necessary space if he were to have made that transfer to Leeds.

Don’t be too shocked if Leeds do return for Pulisic at some point down the line – he’s clearly a player Marsch is intrigued by if nothing else.
