Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has said that he has been impressed by Lewis Bate, as quoted in Leeds Live.

Bate has yet to make his debut for Leeds in the Premier League, but Bielsa rates him highly.

However, the Argentine boss has suggested that he will not be pressured into playing the 19-year-old midfielder until he thinks that the teenager is ready.

Marcelo Bielsa on Lewis Bate

As quoted in Leeds Live, Bielsa said to a journalist when asked about Bate’s incorporation: “What he does is sufficient. A very hard-working person, very serious.

“Competing with players his age and those with stability in the first team. I observe, correctly or not, and I pick.

“Sounds more like the question of a parent or an agent, not a journalist.”

Lewis Bate should stay patient

In our opinion, Bate should stay patient and bide his time.

Bate is just 19 now and joined Leeds from Chelsea only in the summer of 2021.

Leeds paid Chelsea £1.5 million for the English teenager (The Sun).

Bale is doing well for the Leeds youth team at the moment.

If Bate continues to progress and develop at that level, then Bielsa will give him chances in the first team.

Leeds are not having the best of seasons, and it is not ideal for a 19-year-old to come into the team.

Perhaps if things improve in the coming weeks and months, then Bate will get a chance.

We can tell from Bielsa’s comments that he rates Bate highly.
