Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports, that he has noticed how isolated Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips can get in midfield.

With Leeds’ system so fluid, Marcelo Bielsa’s side often commit huge numbers to their attacks.

Phillips can, at times, be left playing midfield on his own – such is Leeds’ other players’ desire to get forward.

The England international is one of the only players in Leeds’ team without much licence to bomb forward.

And Carragher feels that can cause him to look isolated at times, but he has praised just how well Leeds work to get back and support the newly capped England international.

“I want to take a look at Phillips in midfield,” he started. “We know how many bodies Leeds get forward, There are the five men forward, with just the four behind them and Phillips isolated in midfield.

“At times Phillips is left so isolated, I noticed that in the first game against Liverpool at Anfield.

“But what Leeds do is get back really quickly. They are brilliant at getting bodies forward, but they get bodies back.

“They are box to box, end to end, and it’s just a piece of brilliant [which has beaten them].”

Leeds were undone last night when Phillips actually deflected Raul Jimenez’s shot into his own goal.

The Leeds midfielder appeared to have done everything right when blocking the effort, but his header unfortunately went past Illan Meslier and into the back of the net.

The defeat means Leeds have sunk down to 10th place in the Premier League table, although they will still be pleased with their start to life back in the top flight.
