Leeds United’s, Kalvin Phillips, has shared that he ‘never’ screams in the England dressing room before games, as he told the Lions’ Den.
But the boyhood Leeds fan has suggested that he might need to change and ‘start doing’ something.
Phillips produced a standout performance for his country on Sunday when he helped the Three Lions to a 1-0 win against Croatia in their Euro 2020 opener.
It was the Leeds academy products best performance of his career and one to savour.
Nonetheless, the aggressive-natured midfielder shared what he is like in the dressing room when on international duty with his country.
“Before the game, when you are in the changing room and stuff,” said Phillips. “You have got people and leaders who are talking.
“I class myself as a leader but I don’t talk. In the changing room, I don’t talk. I never scream at the lads to try and get them pumped up. I am in my own zone trying to get ready for the game.
“Maybe, it’s something I need to start doing because it might make me feel a little bit better.”
Phillips has perhaps produced one of the standout performances of the tournament and he will be hoping it is the start of many this summer.
A tricky and highly-pressured showdown against Scotland awaits those in England colours on Friday.
And Phillips will be hoping to keep his place in the starting XI, despite many calling for Gareth Southgate to play a more attacking side.
Given the nature of Phillips’ performance, there’s no way Southgate can drop the Leeds man now.
