Tim Sherwood slammed Jordan Pickford for celebrating the saves that he makes by claiming that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker ‘never’ does that.
Everton and Liverpool recorded a goalless draw in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, with Pickford making eight saves and Sherwood telling the player ‘that’s what he is paid for’, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (03/09/22 at 8:35 pm)
Especially towards the end of the game, Pickford denied Mo Salah a stoppage-time winner and he showed his emotions just moments after that match-saving moment.
That’s the England number one in a nutshell and a keeper who plays with passion and someone who isn’t shy of showing his emotions.
He has had his error-prone ways before, but all of that has gone out of his game in recent times, as he stepped up big time over the weekend.
Despite that, Sherwood claimed that Pickford is a ‘prime suspect’ when it comes to keepers celebrating their own saves, as he compared Everton’s number one to Liverpool’s star in between the sticks.
“They are there to make saves,” said Sherwood. “I hate watching goalkeepers celebrate their own glory after games.
“I think Pickford is the prime suspect. I never saw Alisson celebrate his good saves. Listen, they are good saves. He is making fantastic saves.
“But, after all, that’s what he is paid for, to keep the ball out of the back of the net – it’s just my preference.”

THE CELEBRATION POLICE OUT IN FORCE AGAIN
From Arsenal celebrating their narrow win over Fulham to Pickford celebrating his game-saving moments against Liverpool, it seems as though you can’t enjoy yourself anymore.
The celebration police were out in full force for the Arsenal players and now they are gunning for Pickford, who has every right to stick his chest out because he has earned it.
During what has been a difficult period for the club, it could be argued that Pickford has been their best performer or the recently-departed Richarlison.
Rising star Anthony Gordon is also starting to step up and the new centre-back pairing of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski have provided Frank Lampard with much-needed composure at the back.
