Gary Neville has claimed on Sky Sports during their live coverage of Manchester United’s win at Burnley that Liverpool will be now be feeling uncomfortable after losing top spot in the Premier League table.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side needed a second-half Paul Pogba goal to send them three points clear of Liverpool, who they meet at Anfield this Sunday in a potentially mouthwatering title clash.

It could be argued that it’s more of a must-not-lose game for Liverpool than their rivals because Jurgen Klopp’s men would fall six points behind with a defeat.

Neville admitted that he ‘never’ imagined his former side would be in such a situation and he believes those on Merseyside would be sharing the same thoughts.

“It’s a little bit more exciting,” said Neville. “I am going to really enjoy these next three or four days. I really am – It isn’t a moment to get carried away because we know full well how quickly this season has turned around.

“To be top of the table and three points clear of a really good Liverpool side in January is something that isn’t expected – I don’t think anyone is saying Manchester United are going to win the league but the fact that they are in a title race. WOW! I never would have imagined it.

“In these next few days, it’s time to have a little bit of fun and I don’t think it will be a comfortable few days for Liverpool.

“I don’t they expected Manchester United to be anywhere near them or see them as a competitor or a threat this season. I think that’s why it can be a little bit of fun for Manchester United fans.”

The biggest decision facing Klopp is who he plays at the heart of his defence on Sunday because he has Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips are his available options.

Henderson and Fabinho didn’t have a great time against Southampton in the league last time out, whilst Williams was outdone by Villa teenager Louie Barry in the FA Cup on Friday.

Fabinho is the obvious starter at the back, it’s just a case of who joins him from the available players Klopp has to choose from.
