Freddie Ljungberg has said on BT Sports 3 (10:12pm, April 29, 2021) that he never doubts Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The former Arsenal and interim-manager made the comments about Leno following his performance against Villarreal on Thursday evening.

The Gunners lost the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie 2-1 away from home in Spain.

Leno played well for Arsenal, as the 29-year-old Germany international made a superb save in the second half.

The 29-year-old has made mistakes for the Gunners this season, including one against Everton, but he did well to bounce back and showed his class against Villarreal.

Ljungberg said about Leno on BT Sports 3 (10:12pm, April 29, 2021): “He is a strong character. I never doubt him personally. I really like him.”

Staying positive

Leno has been on the books of Arsenal since 2018 and has done well for the Gunners over the years.

True, the German has made mistakes, but all footballers commit errors, and Leno is no different.

However, it must be said that Leno needs to cut out those mistakes, especially like the one he made against Everton when he could not gather a simple rolling ball.

Leno was one of the few Arsenal players who did well over the course of the 90 minutes against Villarreal, and he remains an important player in manager Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal are not going to finish in the Premier League top four, but the away goal in Spain means that the North London club will feel confident of progressing to the final of the Europa League this season.

Winning the Europa League will see Arsenal qualify for the Champions League next season.
