Liverpool prospect Jake Cain is desperate to secure a late loan transfer away from Anfield in the final month of the window after enduring a frustrating summer under Jurgen Klopp.

Jake Cain insists ‘I need to go’ in plea for Liverpool to secure late loan exit

Jake Cain has told Goal that he is seeking a loan transfer away from Liverpool this summer. The talented 20-year-old spent last season away from Merseyside with Newport County in his first taste of senior football. But his efforts were unable to get Jurgen Klopp’s attention.

The Reds boss elected to omit Cain from the Liverpool squad that travelled to the Far East in pre-season. Even though Klopp took a number of emerging talents on tour, with Stefan Bajcetic, Tyler Morton, Leighton Clarkson, Isaac Mabaya, Luke Chambers and Bobby Clark.

Cain, instead, spent the summer training with Barry Lewtas’ U21 side after returning from his Newport County stay. The Wigan-born midfielder enjoyed a strong spell in League Two last term, providing two assists over 25 games – starting 16 times – as a versatile operator.

He enjoyed a string of showings on both wings and through the spine of the engine room at Rodney Parade. Now, the Liverpool product – who joined the Reds academy fold when he was just nine – is desperate to secure another loan transfer to further his development.

“I’m ready for another challenge,” Cain stated. “I need to go on loan again, I need men’s football, and I feel now that I’ll be ready to hit the ground running when the opportunity comes. I know that I’m ready.”

Jurgen Klopp frustrated Jake Cain with pre-season tour omission

Cain added of his disappointment in Klopp omitting the Liverpool prospect from their pre-season tour squad this summer. He saw a lot of merit in, at the very least, travelling to the Far East with the first-team. But Klopp did not offer Cain a chance to display his learnings.

“I can’t lie, I was disappointed,” Cain added. “I thought I had a good loan, I did what was asked of me, and I thought I could come back and show the first-team what I can do.

“They’re the best team in Europe, so I know it’s going to be very difficult to push for a place in the team. But I thought I might have been able to go on the tour, show what I can do and see what the first-team coaches said. So, yeah, it was disappointing.”

Recent reports by Goal have claimed Cain is attracting interest in a potential loan transfer away from Liverpool this summer. The Anfield hierarchy will likely hope to receive offers from League One, or possibly Championship, teams during the final month of the market.
