Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has given a glowing review of January signing Julian Alvarez, who signed for the club last month from River Plate.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, the Premier League icon was asked about the 21-year-old attacker, who will join up with City in the summer after being loaned back out to the Argentine giants.

Aguero and Alvarez have played together for the Argentine national team, and the City legend was full of praise for the youngster, who has taken South America by storm in recent months.

The striker was key to River Plate’s first top-flight title in over a decade, with Alvarez also becoming the youngest winner of the South America Player of the Year award since Neymar’s time at Santos.

Indeed, Alvarez has been likened to Aguero since his move to City was confirmed. And according to the great man himself, Pep Guardiola’s side are getting an exciting talent who could become a sensation for the Premier League giants.

Aguero said: “I must admit, he’s very good, really good. I like him a lot, we have to see in what position they’re going to use him. I don’t know if he’s going to play as a nine, for me he’s a player who has to play more freely, he’s phenomenal.”

Alvarez could become City’s long-term replacement for Aguero

A tricky attacker with incredible finishing and close-control on the ball, it’s easy to see why Alvarez has been lauded as City’s long-term replacement for Aguero, and yet, the Argentine could be just that for Guardiola’s side.

The 21-year-old is one of South America’s most exciting prospects, and with the right training and coaching at City, Alvarez could become a sensation with the Manchester giants once he fully makes the move to England from River Plate.
